Non-members may attend individual meetings for £2. All "Anster
Nichts" are held in the Wester Town Hall, High Street West, Anstruther
at 7:30 p.m.

Why Easter Moves: The Science and the Politics - Dr James Palmer
Dr James Palmer has been a lecturer in Medieval History at the University
of St Andrews since 2007. In this talk, he explains why Easter is a
moveable feast and explores the fascinating history of Easter calculations,
from arguments about heresy in the Roman Empire, to the role Easter
played in driving science in the Middle Ages.
This talk will be preceded by a short AGM.

The Anstruther Whaling Company - Dr Robert Prescott
"The Bailies feued the piece of ground called the fort for a
'boiler house' with the effigy of the ship over the gate, in the spring
of 1757". So George Gourlay tells us in "Anstruther or Illustrations
of Scottish Burgh Life" published in 1888. Dr Robert Prescott
will tell us more of the "effigy of the ship" and of the
local whaling expeditions.
