Use Your Will to Make a Difference to Our Community
Making a legacy to Anstruther Improvements Association
The AIA has benefited greatly from legacies in recent years, and we are hugely grateful to our loyal former members and supporters who have remembered us in their will and left a legacy so that future generations can enjoy the community benefits, events and activities that the AIA can offer. We have ambitious plans to grow the AIA programming that we offer, adding to the range of things that people of all ages can do at Dreel Halls and elsewhere.
Legacies to charities like the AIA are free of inheritance and capital gains tax, so this is a great way to support us tax-effectively.
We recommend that you to seek legal advice when preparing your will.
You will find some information below should you wish to join these generous benefactors by adding the AIA to your will. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require further information.
Type of legacy
There are three main types of gift you can leave in your will:
- A residuary gift is a percentage of your estate once any specified gifts have been made to friends and family. The value of this type of gift will be dependent on the value of your estate at any given time rather than a set amount. This provides you with more flexibility when deciding how to ensure that your loved ones are well looked after.
- A pecuniary gift is a specific amount of money. It is worth bearing in mind that the effects of inflation mean that this type of gift is likely to lose value over time and may end up being less than you initially intended.
- A specific gift is a gift of a specified item – such as a personal possession, land, buildings or stocks and shares.
If you have not yet made a will, we recommend that you seek legal advice. You can speak to your advisor about including one of the gifts outlined above in your will.
If you have already made a will, you can add a codicil to an existing will in order to include the AIA in your will. Your advisor will be able to help you to do this.
